Shinola, a "Made in Detroit" story

Last Friday, I went to the Shinola facility downtown Detroit to learn more about the brand and its products, especially how and where they are manufactured. Most of the bicycles built there are hand made and the level of craftsmanship is impressive. In the watch assembly lines, the air is pressurized to keep any dust from coming into the room. Very very very interesting place. This visit reminded me that "This is the Motor City, and this is what we do". Thanks a lot #Shinola for having us  at your facility, keep up the amazing work.

Race Time!

I have a friend who is training himself for the 2013 IFMAR 1:10 Electric Off Road World Championships, which will happen from the 22nd to the 29th on this month in Chico, California. So I came along to one of his training to see what this was about... Well, very impressive speed and highly technical cars these things! Anodized components, lightweight carbon fiber frames, aluminum parts everywhere, I definitely was impressed!

Here is my friend's design blog, he is also a very talented designer: Fulien Formentin's work

Flying thing

So I watched a video tutorial of Ian Galvin, sketching one of his crazy moto-jets and I wanted to give it a try. I'm really far to be satisfied with this result but for the time I spent on it it's ok... Here it's not a moto-jet it's more like a...jet...thing. The second image is more a thumbnailing of the process where I tried to use as minimum layers as possible.
